NBA-ABA Merger
In 1976, the struggling ABA folded and the most successful four teams joined the NBA. These teams were the San Antonio Spurs, Indiana Pacers, Denver Nuggets, and New York Nets. Of those teams, the San Antonio Spurs are the most successful with 5 NBA Championships. Neither of the other three teams have won a championship. The casualties of the merger were the Kentucky Colonels, Spirits of St. Louis, and the Virginia Squires. The 1976 NBA-ABA Merger was the last time that the NBA would experience a merger with another league.
