Minneapolis Lakers of the Early 1950s
George Mikan's team, the Minneapolis Lakers, dominated the NBA in the early 1950s. They were led by Mikan, Vern Mikkelsen, Jim Pollard, and Slater Martin. Vern Mikkelsen and Jim Pollard were both forwards, Mikkelsen a power forward, and Pollard a small forward. Slater Martin was a 5'10'' point guard, considered short for today's standards. The Lakers won an NBL championship in 1948, and five NBA titles in six years from 1949 to 1954. The Lakers were considered the first dynasty in NBA history and the first team to win NBA Championships three years in a row.
