NBA vs. ABA
While the Boston Celtics were tearing up the NBA, another basketball league was created. The American Basketball Association (ABA) was created in 1967. While the ABA was exciting with a brand new red, white, and blue ball, and a three point line, it wasn't able to attract as much attention as the NBA did. With a lack of attendence, most of the ABA teams folded. Eventually, four remaining teams were absorbed into the NBA as part of the NBA-ABA Merger. Those teams were the San Antonio Spurs, Indiana Pacers, New York Nets, and the Denver Nuggets. While the ABA was not as successful as the NBA, it still housed great talent. These players included, Julius Erving, George Gervin, David Thompson, Artis Gilmore, Dan Issel, and Moses Malone. Many ABA players went to the NBA when the league folded.
